Tooled and non tooled leather
This post is going to describe the difference between hand-tooled leather and Non tooled leather. For the purpose of our items this is referring to the pattern that we hand tool onto the leather. Each one of the these patterns is done completely by hand and done one at a time.
What is tooled leather? It’s actually very simple, it’s any piece of leather that has been worked on in any way to have a design, initials, pattern or other decorative look applied to it.
You use leather tools to make any decorative designs, patterns or shapes in the leather. So tooled leather, means a piece of leather that has been worked on, to make a design on it.
Tooled leather can be any type of item but in our case is referring to the rifle slings, shotgun slings and guitar straps.
When your order is placed, Kendall lays out the leather strap that is cut completely by hand and then finds placement for your name or initials and any of our custom stamps you would like. He then finds the best place to put your tooling pattern. If your name is long the less tooling your sling will have.
I have posted a couple of photos here so you can see the difference between a lot of tooling a little bit of tooling due to the name being long or lots of things added to the sling.
