Chicago Screw Placement
Our Chicago screws are made just for our leather rifle slings and our leather shotgun slings. We take pride in the design and the patriotic look. These are manufactured for us by a company in the United States, making us feel good about the quality.
They come in four colors—Antique Brass, Brass, Silver, and Gunmetal.
When you use our Chicago screws for your personalize leather rifle sling, or even if you use another manufacturers Chicago screws, we recommend once you have your Chicago screw placement on your sling figured out, to use some clear fingernail polish or Loctite 222 Purple or Loctite 242 Blue to secure your Chicago screws in place. The Chicago screws can, with movement, over time, possibly come unscrewed. We always recommend checking that they are secure before carrying your gun.
You can purchase additional or different colors of Chicago screws here.
More about Loctite:
- Loctite 242:Loctite Threadlocker Blue 242 is designed to lock and seal threaded fasteners and prevent loosening from vibration. Ideal for 6-19mm fasteners, this unique formula is great for small motors, mowers, and power equipment. Loctite Threadlocker Blue 242 protects threads and prevents rusting and corrosion, and eliminates the need to stock up on expensive screws. Fast and easy to use, this medium-strength threadlocker sets in 10 minutes and fully cures in 24 hours. Loctite Threadlocker Blue 242 is particularly suited for applications on less active substrates such as stainless steel and plated surfaces, where servicing requires disassembly. Using it makes the screws removable with the use of hand tools; therefore, it is important to have the placement figured out before applying Loctite the first time.
- Loctite 222: If you’re working with small-diameter screws made of low-strength metals (e.g., aluminum or brass), you need a special kind of threadlocker. LOCTITE® 222 purple fits the bill perfectly. It is ideal for low-strength thread locking of adjustment screws, countersunk head screws, and set screws; on collars, pulleys, tool holders, and controllers. Cures on most metals without a primer, including passive substrates such as stainless steel, aluminum, and plated surfaces. It also cures through light coatings of corrosion prevention oils without cleaning the parts. Ideal for low-strength threadlocking of adjustment screws, countersunk head screws, and set screws. It Prevents fastener loosening on vibrating assemblies, e.g., pumps, gearboxes, or presses. It is especially suited to small thread sizes of 1/4"/6mm or smaller. Permits disassembly with ordinary hand tools for easy service and maintenance
You can purchase Loctite at any major retailer (Amazon, Walmart, Target) or a nearby hardware store.
Fingernail polish is another simple and cheaper solution you may already have in your house. Most clear nail polishes work well and can easily be undone by hand or with a flathead screwdriver. Again, make sure to figure out the placement of the screws before applying any of these threadlocker agents.
